World Veterinary Day Celebrations held at SKUAST-J

JAMMU, Apr 30: The World Veterinary Day (WVD) was celebrated at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Shere-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, R S Pura, Jammu (SKUAST Jammu). This year WVD was celebrated globally on 30 April 2016. The theme of this year's WVD was "Continuing Education with One Health Focus". Dr. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J was the Chief Guest of the WVD celebrations at SKUAST of Jammu.
To commemorate the WVD, an essays competition on "Importance of Veterinary Sciences and Live Stock Industry in India" and creative writing competition on "How to Save Water for Future Generations" was organized for the schools in which 42 students from different schools of the Jammu region participated. Students of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (F.V.Sc. & A.H.), SKUAST Jammu participated in quiz and extempore completions.
Prof. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST of Jammu the Chief Guest on this occasion congratulated the faculty and students on this day. He highlighted the importance of agriculture sector including livestock in the economy of the globe, and exhorted the veterinarians to put on their efforts to maintain the ecological balance in total which could be cultivated by the sensitive behaviour of the human beings. He distributed the prizes to the winner students of the quiz contest, extempore, and also for other cultural and literary activities held during the year.
Prof. M M S Zama, Dean, F.V.Sc. & A.H., SKUAST-J, R.S. Pura distributed the prizes among winners of the essay and creative writing competitions, Sukmeet Kour and Shivani Chib (Holy Cross Convent School), Akanksha and Ridhima Gupta (MHS DAV Public School), Sanatan Sharma (Gandhi Memorial Hr. Secondary School), Ammania Vhellum and Vanshika Choudhary (Carmel Convent High School), and Deepak Choudhary and Ravleen Kour (Mother India Senior Secondary School).
