Mufti strengthened democratic institutions in state: Nirmal

He made us understand role of opposition in democracy

SRINAGAR, May 26: Paying rich tributes to former Chief Minister, Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today termed him as a great visionary and said the late leader played a significant role in strengthening democratic institutions in the state. Speaking on the obituary reference in the house today, Dr. Singh said that in his short stint, he learned a great deal with the former Chief Minister. He said that Mufti Sahib contributed a lot for strengthening the democratic setup and institutions of not only the State but the whole country.
“The capabilities of Mufti sahib were recognized at national level also due to which he rose to key positions during his political career," he said. "His integrity, uprightness and political understanding made him a great visionary leader," he said. Dr Singh said that Mufti contributed a lot into the state politics at all levels.
“PDP-BJP forged an alliance which was impossible ideologically but Mufti sahib proved that times have changed and all the parties should work for the development of the State and the country," he said. He said the alliance parties and opposition should follow the path laid down by the late Chief Minister.
"We have a set goal and that goal must be realized by the alliance partners keeping in view the vision of Mufti sahib," he said. "Mufti sahib will be remembered for his qualities and he will also be remembered for, making us understand the role of opposition in democracy," he said. "He would say Opposition's role is to oppose, expose and depose and that should be respected by the parties in power," remembering Mufti, Dr Singh said.
The Deputy Chief Minister also paid rich tributes to the two-time former Governor of the State, Late Gen KV Krishna Roa.
“He was not only a great warrior but someone who worked for the betterment of the nation from a Sipahi to Rajpal," he said. Dr Singh also recalled his contribution to the State.
Meanwhile, Dr Singh also paid rich tributes the Ex Speakers, Lok Sabha, Balram Jakhar, PA Sangma, Ex Ministers, Ch Lal Muhammad Sabir, Muhammad Khalil Jawahar, Dr Ramesh Chander Sharma besides legislators, Sehdev Singh and Muhammad Maqbool Muhjoo.
