Campaigning for fourth phase UP polls to end today

LUCKNOW, Feb 20: The electrifying campaigning for the February 23 fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will end tomorrow evening.
The election will be held in 53 Assembly seats spread across 12 districts covering Bundelkhand. A strong 1.84 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise at 19,487 polling booths.
This phase will see the crucial contest in Rae Bareli, the parliamentary constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Allahabad, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur.
The region which will test the SP- Congress alliance besides the influence of BSP and BJP, has witnessed electioneering in a big way by leaders of almost all the major political parties.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself addressed one election meeting yesterday at Fatehpur. Today, he will be addressing two rallies at Orai and Phoolpur( Allahabad).
The SP- Congress alliance of Mr Akhilesh Yadav and Mr Rahul Gandhi addressed a joint election meeting in Jhansi yesterday and were expected to hold a similar meeting in Allahabad tomorrow.
Ms Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also addressed two election meetings with her brother in Rae Bareli only.
BSP president Mayawati has also addressed around six election meetings for this phase of the polls.
The prominent candidates in the fray are Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya as Independent from Kunda( Pratapgarh), Congress leader Pramod Tiwari’s daughter Aradhana Mishra from Rampur Khas( Pratapgarh), BSP legislature party leader Gaya Charan Dinker from Naraini seat in Banda, UP minister Manoj Pandey from Uchahar seat in Rae Bareli, Congress candidate Aditi Singh, daughter of muscle man Akhilesh Singh, from Rae Bareli ( Sadar) seat and BJP national spokesperson Sidharthnath Singh from Allahabad( west).
In the fourth phase Assembly seats, the parties which won these seats in 2012 are SP- 24, BSP- 15, BJP- 5, Congress -6 and others -3.
Of the total seats, 19 are in Bundelkhand region where BSP and the SP had shared the seats in the 2012 elections of seven each while Congress won 4 and BJP just one.
The 12 districts going to polls are Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Allahabad, Jalaon, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Banda, Fatehpur, Rae Bareli and Chitrakoot.
The polling would be held in Assembly segments Rampur Khas, Babaganj (SC), Kunda, Vishwanath Ganj, Pratapgarh, Patti, Raniganj, Sirathu, Manjhanpur (SC), Chail, Phaphamau, Soraon (SC), Phulpur, Pratappur, Handia, Meja, Karachhanna, Allahabad West, Allahabad North, Allahabad South, Bara (SC), Koraon (SC), Madhaugarh, Kalpi, Orai (SC), Babina, Jhansi Nagar, Mauranipur (SC), Garautha, Lalitpur, Mehroni (SC), Mahoba, Charkhari, Hamirpur, Rath (SC), Tindwari, Baberu, Naraini (SC), Banda, Chitrakoot, Manikpur, Jahanabad, Bindki, Fatehpur, Ayah Shah, Husainganj, Khaga (SC), Bachhrawan (SC), Harchandpur, Rae Bareli, Salon (SC), Sareni, Unchahar.
