PIL on State Pollution Control Board working

Jammu, Mar 20: A Public Interest Litigation has highlighted the poor working of State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) especially there is hardly any arrangement for testing the quality of air.
The PIL was filed by Advocate Rajinder Singh Jamwal regarding highlighting the poor working of State Pollution Control Board. The petition pointed out that in the absence of pollution check at government laboratory level most of the industrial units have seek help from private laboratories for getting the sample tested which is in violation of law because no authenticity has been attached to these reports.
Today when the matter was listed, A Division Bench of State High Court Comprising Chief Justice (A) Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur after hearinhg petitioner Adv Rajinder Singh in person whereas Govt Advocate Ahtsham Hussain Bhat appearing for the state observed that compliance report filed by the J&K State Pollution Control Board is taken on record.
On perusal of the report, Division Bench observed that this Court found that this report relates only to District Kathua, whereas this Court observed that the inspection should be done in all districts by respective Pollution Control Board authorities and in particular focus should be on districts where there is high concentration of industries, like, Jammu and Samba and directed to file Action Taken Report on next date of hearing.
