I support Maj Gogoi’s action: Shah

New Delhi, May 26: BJP president Amit Shah said today that he supported the decision of an Army major to tie a man to a jeep as a "shield" against stone-pelters in Kashmir.
Responding to a question on the action of Major Leetul Gogoi, he said the Army officer's action had helped polling officials and policemen escape unhurt.
The major allegedly tied the man to the bonnet of a jeep on the day of bypolls to the Srinagar parliamentary constituency on April 9, apparently in a bid to deter stone- pelters.
"I appreciate it and also support it," Shah told a press conference here on the completion of three years of the Modi government.
Asked whether he would want the major to be awarded for his action, the BJP chief said there is a process involved in honouring people. "He has already been awarded by the Army chief," Shah said.
Major Gogoi was awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card.
Commenting on the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been monitoring the situation minutely and the government would find a solution.
Politics should not be left to politicians only and the BJP is open to all "good people", party chief Amit Shah said today, days after Tamil cine superstar Rajinikanth hinted at taking the political plunge.
Shah, however, did not specify whether Rajinikanth would be given an invitation to join the BJP.
"We believe that any good person joining politics must be welcomed," Shah said while responding to a question on speculation about Rajinikanth entering politics.
He, however, said it is for the actor to decide whether he wants to join politics or not.
"Politics should not be left to politicians alone," he told PTI during an interaction.
Speculation is rife that the BJP is trying to rope in the actor, who has a large fan following, to make inroads in Tamil Nadu.
BJP national secretary H Raja had earlier said Rajnikanth is a "popular" personality and is welcome to join the saffron party.
Raja, who hails from Tamil Nadu, said the actor has to first make up his mind about joining politics, when asked if the BJP will approach him.
"He has every right to form a political party or join politics. But so far he has not taken a firm stand. So we have to wait and see," he had said.
Rajinikanth had spilled the beans about his political entry during an interaction with his fans a few days ago and told them to be ready for a "war".
