Militants shot dead civilian


Srinagar, Jun 18: Militants tonight shot dead a civilian in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, police said.
Aijaz Ahmad Malik (27) was shot at and critically injured by militants outside his residence at Arrubugh in Pulwama around 10.30 PM, a police official said.
Malik was rushed to a hospital here for treatment but succumbed to injuries., the official added.
It was not immediately known why the militants targeted the civilian, he said.
However, a group of militants attacked an Army convoy in south Kashmir's Anantnag district today.
There was, however, no casualty in the incident.
The militants fired some shots at the army vehicles in Bijbehara area and fled from the spot, a police official said.
Security forces cordoned off the area and a search operation was on, the official said.
Meanwhile, Unidentified robbers decamped with an automated teller machine (ATM) of State Bank of India (SBI) in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, the police said today.
The robbers broke open the ATM at Zirpora in the Bijbehara area of the district last night, said a police official.
They made off with the machine, he said, adding that the amount of cash in it was not immediately known.
A case was registered in this regard and further investigations were on, said the police official.
