Kriti Kharbanda’s trip to Slovenia

21/06/2017

Slovenia is known for its architecture, natural beauty and food. Bordered by Italy in the west, Austria in the north, Hungary in the northeast, Croatia in the south and southeast, and the Adriatic Sea in the southwest, the country made quite an impression on actress Kriti Kharbanda, who had never heard about the country earlier till she went there to shoot a film.
Kriti's account of the Central European country:
Stairway to heaven
I honestly didn't even know Slovenia existed till I was told we were going there to shoot a movie. For me, just the name sounded magical. We landed in Italy and drove to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, where were staying for the entire duration of the shoot. The population is scarce and it is one of the quaintest places with eye-catching architecture. Even the hotels are old world; the one we were put up at didn't even have a lift, so we had to walk all the way up. But I liked it.
Pizzas and ciders
I loved the pizzas that were available at every nook and corner. I got to feast on a variety of them. Slovenia is known for its meat. Pork is available in abundance, as also salmon. I was binging every single day.You get local ciders in different flavours too, with just about seven per cent of alcohol in them.
Walk and talk
Everyone walks in Slovenia. You don't see too many cars on the streets. Like the locals, I would walk or cycle to the shoot too. The weather was nippy and you get everything you need within a radius of five kilometers. I was in Slovenia for 15 days and I would attend mass at the local church, Ljubljana Cathedral.
I felt like I was in a movie because everyone makes an effort to dress up for Sunday mass. Once, I came across a lady who was at least 80 years old, dressed all in black. She had decorated her cycle with flowers. It was so sweet! I visited other churches in the vicinity and some castles too. I remember Predjama Castle in particular for its exquisite beauty. It is a piece of Renaissance architecture in south-central Slovenia.
Dog friendly people
I was in Slovenia during September-October when it was around 9 degrees celsius and extremely cold. The locals told me it gets even colder during the rest of the year. It was snowing when we visited the outskirts but the view was absolutely stunning.
Slovenia has a lot of parks and is full of dog-friendly people. Being an animal lover myself, I really liked that and would visit the parks often. If I had my way, I'd spend time with dogs over humans any day. There are also bird parks there which are wonderful. At the end of the schedule, I didn't want to return.
High fashion woolies
I went shopping at the local market. You get interesting knit-wear there and I bought several high fashion coats and jackets which are very affordable. Of course I can't wear any of them in India. I only got to wear some of them while I was shooting in Romania for 'Raaz Reboot'.
