D&FCO intensifies market inspection, suspends 54 licenses of chemists

JAMMU, Jun 20: Intensifying its special drive to conduct checking of chemist outlets to ensure quality and safe drugs for the consumers in the market, the Drugs & Food Control Organization have carried out systematic inspections across the Jammu division.
During the week-long special drive, the Organization conducted 278 inspections, lifted 104 samples of different medicines, issued show cause notice to 59 establishments/traders and stopped the operation of 54 shops, besides licenses of 54 chemists outlets were suspended for violating various provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules.
The samples of the medicines and other allied products have been referred for opinion to the Drug Testing Laboratories. Two unlicensed shops at Salalpur & Changram areas of Kathua District were closed down on the spot as these were being operated without Licenses. Preliminary investigation in the matter is in progress & legal action contemplated under law shall be initiated against the above defaulting firms in due course of time.
The designated officers called upon the traders/chemists to adhere to the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act & Rules in letter & spirit. The Chemists were told to obtain copies of prescription from buyers of medicine particularly while dispensing Schedule H & H1 drugs. The authorities also sought the cooperation of the traders to check the menace of drug abuse by restricting the sale of such products.
