Medical camp organised for veterans

Jammu, Jun 24: Veterans give their best to the nation while serving in the Armed Forces of the Country. A number of Welfare Schemes are launched by Central/State Government to look after the Veterans, their widows/families and the families of the Martyrs. In addition, the support of Citizens of the Country, maintains the Morale of Armed Forces Sky high. It has been the efforts of Sainik Welfare Department that ESM/Martyrs related events should be organized regularly, to provide opportunity to our citizens, to have a meaningful interaction with our Veterans, Martyrs families and Army. Director, Sainik Welfare Department acts as a liaison agency to organise various Welfare related activities for such interactions.
On request by Director Rajya Sainik Board Brigadier Harcharan Singh, VSM, Escort Fortis Hospital Group was approached by Brigadier Anil Gupta, VSM. Coordination of the Medical Camp and its allotment was done by Mr Yudhvir Sethi and due to their efforts, group of Specialist Doctors was made available by Fortis Hospital Amritsar for Medical Camp to be organised for Veterans at RS Pura (Sattowali), today. All the arrangements were made by the Army Authorities for setting up the Camp, Reception of Veterans and their conveyance to the Camp, which requires lot of efforts and detailed planning. The Medical Camp was inaugurated by the Senior Most Veteran/ Veer Nari in the Presence of Veterans, Army Officers, Specialists of the Escort Hospital Group, Mr Yudhvir Sethi and officials of Sainik Welfare Department.
The Medical Camp was coordinated by Mr Amit Bagotra and Rajiv Verma of Fortis Escort Group. Veterans were given Medical services and check up of Cardiologist, Orthopedic, Neurologist and Physician. Keeping their advanced age in mind, stalls were set up for Blood Sugar Test, Bone Density Test, and ECG. Dental check up was organised by Indra Gandhi Medical College, Jammu.
Organising the Medical Camp was made meaningful by voluntary donations of medicines by our citizens, to name a few, Dr. Ritesh of Indra Gandhi Dental College Jammu, Mr Devinder Singh (Servay Bhavantu Sukhina Medicos, New Plot) and some other volunteer from Rotary Club Jammu.
Director Rajya Sainik Board thanked the Army, Mr Yudhvir Sethi, Fortis Escort Group of Hospital and all citizens who have helped to make the Medical Camp a success. He informed the Veterans that special efforts are being made by Hon'ble Governor Shri N N Vohra to get New Welfare Schemes sanctioned for the Veterans/ widows. Recently, for the Non Pensioners of J&K (above 65 years), a case was taken up with Ministry of Defence. With efforts of Hon'ble Governor, the monthly penury grant was enhanced from Rs 1000/- to Rs 4000/-. Director informed that such Medical Camps will be organised in other locations also, so that in addition to the provisions of medical facilities, our citizens get opportunity to interact with Veterans/ Armed Forces through such events. ZSWO Jammu, Colonel JDS Kotwal added that Hon'ble Governor has also sanctioned grant of Rs 5000/- as incentive to children of Veterans/ their widows who figure in Merit list of Class 12 Board Exam. Also, children qualifying for Civil Services Exam will be granted Rs 10,000/- as incentive.
