Dated 19.06.2017 issued by Education Department of J&K State and said that it is a setback to the expectations of the Punjabi speaking people of the state.
A resolution was also passed demanding the implementation of Punjabi as a compulsory subject in the schools at high school level as Punjabi is spoken by a large number of people as their mother tongue in the state, irrespective of their religions. The members showed their concern over discrimination of the concerned agencies with Punjabi language and Punjabi speaking people and the order has created resentment among the lovers of Punjabi language. Till 1981, Punjabi was one of the major languages along with Hindi and Urdu but in the light of three language formula, Punjabi was been ignored. After a long struggle, it was re- inducted at Primary level but now this new order has marginalized Punjabi forever.
