AILU pays tributes to Salaria

JAMMU, July 24: The J&K State Unit of AILU held a special meeting today to pay tributes to its chief Patron Shabir Ahmed Salaria Sr. Advocate who expired on 20th July.
The meeting was presided over by the president Hari Chand Jalmeria, in which the lawyers spoke on the life and deeds of late Mr. Salaria who remained two times Advocate General of the State, one term member of Rajya Sabha. Simple in his habits, Salaria was committed to principles, believed in secularism and stood steadfast for justice to the people. He never succumbed to any pressure or temptation in the matters of principles. Once he resigned AG's post. He also edited urdu newspaper Albyan for many decades.
Jalmeria apprised the meeting about Salaria's contribution during the struggle for Dogri's inclusion in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution. On 8 July 1992, he spoke at length for Dogri in Rajya Sabha and joined Dharna of Dogri Sangharash Morcha at India Gate New Delhi. During the onslaught of militancy in the State in 1990, Slaria played a great role along with me and other prominents like Prof Ram Nath Shastri, Balraj Puri, Dhan Raj Bargotra, Prof Sultan Mohd, Aziz Willian, S. Santokh Singh, Mohd Sadiq Malik, Ashok Sharma in strengthening communal harmony through Abpsi Bhai Chara (ABC) movement.

Teja Singh, Zahid Sarfraz Malik advocates spoke on the occasion.
The participants felt a great loss to legal fraternity in particular and the society in general, in the demise of Shabir Ahmed Slaria. He shall be remembered for times to come. Two minutes silence was observed for peace to his soul.
