NAGROTA, Aug 13: Provincial President National Conference Mr Devender Singh Rana on Sunday sought identification and ouster of fake state subject holders and exhorted the people to play their crucial role in preserving the Duggar land.
“Overt and covert attempts are being made by the BJP to dispense with Article 35A, which negates the spirit of the State Subject laws enacted by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1927 to avert dominance of non-state subjects in the state in general and Jammu in particular", Mr Rana said while interacting with people during his two day extensive visit of Upper Kathar, Kishenpur, Surinsar, Chilla, Sangad and Pounthal Panchayats of the Nagrota Assembly Constituency.
He said the people of Jammu will never allow their interests to get trampled by doing away with the Article 35A thus depriving them of opportunities in employment, business avocations and above all land holdings. "The state subject laws are shield to the legitimate interests of the people of Jammu", he maintained.
The Provincial President decried the hypocricy of the BJP, saying under the guise of Messiahas of Jammu people they were proving biggest usurpers in the mistaken belief of ultra nationalism. He said these machinations will not be allowed to succeed as the people are determined to offer any sacrifice for preserving their identity.
During the visit Mr Rana toured the Surinsar lake and took stock of its beautification and infrastructural development. These include electrification of the lake boulevard at a cost of Rs 1.13 crore, water jetties and view points costing Rs 20 lakhs, another Rs 20 lakhs for modern toilet blocks and Rs 10 lakhs for water facility at Sangad.

He said the road network has suffered massive damages resulting in hampered mobility and called for improving and upgrading these on urgent basis. He particularly made a mention of various link roads connecting different villages getting blocked due to mudslides at several locations. The rain water has also damaged building and various school buildings, besides causing extensive damage to the low lying paddy field, wherein many families have been affected, he added.
The MLA highlighted the crucial role of various engineering wings especially the rural development department in changing the landscape of the area, saying the constituency being rural-oriented, a holistic approach was needed to be adopted with regard to development in consultation with the local representatives. He sought massive awareness about the schemes and programmes being taken up in the rural development sector so that benefit accrues to targeted segment of society in a time bound manner.
On this occasion, the public representatives highlighted area-specific problems and sought their immediate redressal.
