Sainik School Nagrota celebrates 71st Independence Day

Jammu, Aug 16: Sainik School Nagrota celebrated the 71st Independence Day at Maj Somnath Sharma, PVC stadium in the school campus on 15 Aug 2017. An elegant ceremonial parade was held in which all the cadets of the school participated including those in National Cadet Corps. The cadets of both Senior and Junior Division belonging to army and naval wings of National Cadet Corps marched crisply to the rhythmic beats of the School Band and earned applause from the packed stands of the stadium. Capt (Indian Navy) A.Muthuraman, Principal presided over the function as the Chief Guest and unfurled the tricolor amidst great cheer and patriotic fervor.
In his address, the Principal recalled the supreme sacrifices of the heroes of freedom struggle and also the Gandhian way to celebrate this day by striving hard to make the society a better place to live in. He advised the young cadets to rededicate themselves on this great day, for the betterment of our country and our countrymen. He urged the cadets to inculcate the sense of patriotism and spirit of nationalism. Earlier, Lt Col Mitali Madhumita SM, Vice Principal & Officer Commanding NCC inspected the parade as the conducting officer.
The school also sent a contingent of seventy cadets including the School Band to take part in the Independence Day Parade organized by the Government of J&K at Parade Ground, Jammu. The School Band scored a hat-trick by winning the Best Band Contingent Award for the third consecutive time for their scintillating performance during the ceremonial parade at Jammu. Back at school, they received special commendation from the Principal and a resounding reception by the rest of the cadets.
Celebrations continued right through the evening with Chenab House presenting an Independence Day themed colourful cultural programme at the school auditorium.
