Sports imperative for overall development of youth: Kohli

UDHAMPUR, Oct 13: The Inter School Handball Tournament for under 17 Boys/Girls concluded here today at Sports Stadium.
The tournament was organized by the State Sports Council Udhampur in collaboration with K C Gurukul Public School, Jakhar, Udhampur.
Minister for Fisheries, Animal Sheep Husbandry, Mr Abdul Ghani Kohli was the chief guest on the occasion while Deputy Commissioner, Udha mpur, Ravinder Kumar was the guest of honour.
Lauding the efforts of the organizers, Kohli exuded confidence that the mega event will help in achieving the objective of overall development of youngsters and generate awareness among them about the importance of sports .
He exhorted upon the youth to put in their best and strive for excellence in play field without compromising their academic pursuits.
He said that sports are not only imperative for mental and physical growth of the children but it opens up many opportunities for a bright career.
He appreciated the sportsmanship of participating teams and called upon the youth to regularly take part in sports. He further urgee upon the organizers to hold more such events in future to mould the budding sports talent in the district.
While speaking on the occasion, the DC appreciated the efforts of students and their coaches for showcasing excellent sports talent. He said that such sports events will help to promote the spirit of sports spirit among the youth.
On the concluding day, the last match of Girl's category was played between Army Public School Udhampur and KC Gurukul Public School Jakhar Udhampur which was won by Army Public School Udhampur.
Besides in Boy's category, Bhram Rishi Bhawra Shanti Vidyapeeth (BRBVP) Udhampur defeated Army Public School Udhampur in neck to neck match.
The Chief Guest distributed trophies and medals among the winners and runner up team.
Later, District Social Welfare Officer Udhampur, Rachna Sharma deliberated on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and stressed on the education of the girl child.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Rayees Bhat, Joint Secretary J&K Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Vice Chairman District Sports Council Udhampur, Rahil Gupta, District Officers of the various departments and number of sports lovers were also present on the occasion.
