Haq lays foundation of 17 km road in Kupwara

Distributes sports kits among girl students, grants Rs 11 lakh for local Girls School

KUPWARA, Oct 15: Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj Law and Justice on Sunday laid foundation stone of 17 kilometre Khumriyal-Shumriyal-Dooniwari-Surigam road at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore in Kupwara district.
Fulfilling a long pending demand of about a dozen village dwellers, the Minister laid the foundation stone on Saturday at three locations including Khumriyal, Dooniwari and Surigam and the work will be started on these three locations with an aim to complete the work at earliest.
Speaking on the occasion, minister said the government aims to increase connectivity in rural areas as connectivity is the first step towards development. He said the up-gradation and renovation of this road was much needed and a long pending of the people and he had promised the people that this road will be build very soon. He said he feels satisfied by fulfilling the promise and appealed the people to be eyes and ears of the government by keeping track of the development works and provide feedback to the government about the developmental activities so that the government can improve the quality of work.
Later the Minister participated in the annual day and Parent day celebration of Government Girls High School Divar. Speaking on the occasion, Minister said education is a first and foremost necessity of a society without which a society cannot survive. He appealed the parents, teachers and students to provide conducive atmosphere for the students so that they can get education and become good human beings to lead us in future. He said it is responsibility of every citizen to provide conducive atmosphere for the students and keep the students away from ongoing political strife.
He said government is committed to provide quality education to the students of the state and asked the students to avail the benefits of the infrastructure available in the schools. The minister announced Rs 11 Lakh grant to the High School for the up-gradation of school infrastructure including laboratory and class rooms.
Abdul Haq said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is keen to provide every possible assistance to the girl students for their education and has announced many schemes for the girl students in past. On the occasion Minister also distributed sports kits among the girl students and said that the girls should equally take part in sports activities. The minister also distributed an amount of Rs 50000 among meritorious students during the event in different activities.
