Sham, Jugal inaugurate Rs 3.38 cr WSSs in Akhnoor

JAMMU, Oct 15: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary and Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma today laid foundation stone of Water Supply Scheme (WSS), Kangar in Akhnoor constituency. The WSS, with a capacity of 5,000 gallons per hour, has been taken up under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRD WP) and would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. On its completion, the scheme will benefit approximately 2580 villagers living in Kangar and adjoining areas.
During the visit to Akhnoor, Sham Lal Choudhary along with MP Jugal Kishore also inaugurated recently completed Rs 1.56 cr Water Supply Scheme under NRDWP at Ambi Danna in Akhnoor block. It will cater to the drinking water needs of Ambi and Danna villages having an approximate population of over 1500 souls.
Later, they also dedicated another newly completed NRDWP Water Supply Scheme in Gulaba Chapper area to the people. This water supply scheme has been completed at a cost of Rs 1.82 crore and will benefit several villages. Pertinently, National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) caters to the emerging challenges in availability, sustainability and quality of drinking water in rural areas. MLA Akhnoor Rajeev Sharma, MLA Chamb Dr. Krishan Bhagat, Superintendent Engineer Hydraulic Jammu Kuldeep Magotra, Tehsildar Kharawalli Dr. Ashwani Hansa, senior officers of various departments besides former Sarpanches, Panchs and a large number of villagers were also present at the inaugural and foundation laying functions.
Addressing largely attended public meetings at village Kangar, Ambi Danna and Gulaba Chapper, Sham Lal Choudhary said that coalition government has accorded focused attention to upgrade infrastructure to provide all basic facilities in every nook and corner of the state, right from its formation. He said development of all three regions is the agenda of the coalition government which is fully supported by the centre government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said during the past over three years, massive development has taken place in all vital sectors.
Reasserting the government's resolve to provide safe drinking Water to people, the Minister asked the department heads to monitor the functioning of field staff to ensure transparency, accountability and efficient services. "The first and foremost motive of PHE department is to provide clean drinking water to each and every household in the State with special focus on border and kandi areas," he added.
In his address, Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma highlighted the welfare programs and schemes launched by the Narendra Modi led government at the centre.
He stressed on effective implementation of the welfare schemes that focus on empowerment of women, raising the living standards of the poor and providing employment opportunities to the youth.
