Rana for road safety auditing, adequate transport in rural areas

JAMMU Oct 16: National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Ranaon Monday expressed concern over alarming growth in road accidents, saying responsibility has to be fixed for poor regulation of traffic, rash and negligent driving besides scarce availability of transport in rural areas leading to over-loading, vulnerable to mishaps.
"We cannot continue witnessing people perishing and getting injured on menacing roads due to poor regulation and many other factors", Mr Rana said while interacting with the injured of this morning Birpur Vijaypur road mishap and their relatives at GMC College Hospital here. He enquired from the doctors about the status of injured and sought specialized treatment to the injured free of cost.
The ill-fated Jewel Chowk bound bus from Dhoon via Sandhi, Khada Madaana, Birpur, Purmandal Morh, Kunjwani, Gangyal to Jewel met the accident near Birpur in which seven persons were injured. The rural areas of the Nagrota Assembly Constituency are facing acute scarcity of passenger transport leading to overloading and rash driving.
Accompanied by State Vice President Th Kashmira Singh besides Din Mohammed and Rashida Begum spent quite a time with the injured and extended solidarity with their relatives
Mr Rana said several routes in the constituency were vulnerable to accidents due to overloading, as adequate number of passenger vehicles is not available to cater to the needs of commuters.
He said due to paucity of passenger transport, the people are not only made to wait for longer hours but also forced to travel in overload that makes them vulnerable to accidents.
"We wonder over response of the government that has been showing insensitive towards needs of various areas", the MLA Nagrota said, adding that responsibility had to be fixed for laxity in issuance of permits to passenger vehicle pliers, Had the concerned officials taken timely action, perhaps such mishaps could have been averted, he said, adding that repeated pleas for issuing more permits on various routes in Nagrota constituency have fallen to deaf ears. "This is unacceptable", he said and urged the concerned to rise to the occasion and take necessary measures for ensuring adequate transport facilities in the rural areas.
