VIJAYPUR, Oct 17: Former Minister and National Conference Sr State Vice President Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia on Tuesday paid glowing tribute to martyrs, who stood firm in the defense of nation in challenging situations.
“We salute the valour of brave jawans, who laid down their lives while defending the nation”, Mr Slathia said while leading people in paying homage to Shaheed Hav. Tara Chand Lakotra at a function held at Village Khod Slarian (Nandpur) Samba this morning. Martyr Lakotra sacrificed his life during Operation Prakrama at Sunderbani in Jammu and Kashmir this day 17 years ago. "By offering supreme sacrifice, Hav Tara Chand has made the State proud", Mr Slathia added.
Mr Slathia seized the opportunity to highlight the plight of the border dwellers, who were living under the shadow of fear due to intermittent and unprovoked shelling from across the border. He said the PDP-BJP dispensation has been insensitive towards their plight, as all the promises for creating shelter spaces and allotting plots to the vulnerable segments of border residents have proven hoax.
The former minister, who was chief guest at the homage giving function, said the coalition government has hugely betrayed the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those living in rural, remote and border areas. "Their problems are accumulating with each passing day as the defunct utility services are responsible for erratic power and water supply and the developmental tempo has abruptly stopped for the past three years", he said, adding that the people were totally disillusioned with the coalition dispensation for its failure on all fronts.
The local functionaries and the prominent citizens of the area also paid tributes to Shaheed Hav. Tara Chand Lakotra (Sena Medal) of 4th JAK RIF. They included Mr Mohan Singh Patti, Block President National Conference Ramgarh, who was guest of honour, besides Mr Romesh Mortan, President JKBWA, who presided over the function. Mr Om Prakash Attri, Ex Sarpanch Mohand Lal and Mr Sunny Choudhary also paid tributes to the Martyr, son of the soil.
