Mendhar, Oct 18: Expressing concern over injuries to civilians in cross LoC shelling in Poonch, Senior National Conference leader and MLA Mendhar Javed Rana on Tuesday condemned Government for constructed bunkers for the civilian population in the village along Line of Control in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district.
In a statement, Rana expressed grief over injuries to eight civilian in cross LoC shelling and damage to five vehicles in Mendhar, Balakote and Manjakote sectors of twin district Poonch-Rajouri.
He said that the Government has failed to save lives and properties of the innocent people who are living along the LoC and always become soft target of shelling from other side.
"If the Government would have provided bunkers for civilian in their respective villages in adequate numbers, the injuries could have been avoided. However, lack of interest towards the border villages along the LoC has put a serious question mark on the policies of the present Government being run by PDP-BJP," he said.
He said that there is a need to develop properly the remote areas of LoC in Mendhar using the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) funds but same is not being done.
He further alleged that instead of providing drinking water, electricity, road connectivity, health services, education, and bunkers in the LoC villages, the Government is allegedly indulged to divert BADP funds especially its additionality.
"There is no proper planning for the implementation of BADP funds. The additionality of the funds are given on pick and choice manner which has affected developmental activities in border areas," he alleged.
He said that concerned MLAs are not being taken into account before the sanctioning of additionlities and the works are also given to the blue eyed.
"There is no concept of overall development of LoC villages. However, there is insist on to develop border areas of Jammu, Kathua and Samba ignoring the residents of LoC who are actually suffering most living in mud houses and in poor condition without proper road connectivity," he reminded the Government.
He said that the PDP has handed over Jammu division to BJP and RSS and they are making policies for their own constituencies ignoring the residents of LoC under a well hatched conspiracy. He raised question mark on the modern villages which were given to the Samba, and Kathua districts ignoring Mendhar. How can you justify the injustice with the people who defend the borders of the country? questions Rana.
He appealed Government to shun its policies of selective developmental activities ignoring overall development of the State with its communal attention.
"National Conference has never discriminated with any region whenever it remained in Government. PDP should ask its coalition partner i.e. BJP to work for the entire state not for two districts with communal mindset," he added at the end.
