Court rejects bail of Charas smugglers

JAMMU, Nov 23: Principal Sessions Judge Kathua M A Chowdhary rejected the bail application of Nazir Ahmed and Nazakat Ali who are allegedly charas smugglers.
As per police report, a police party headed by SI Anand Dutta, on 17.10.2017 while on patrol duty at Gura Khad Hiranagar, found two persons having bags in their hands at about 1700 hours, who were proceeding towards Hiranagar Morh on foot and on subjecting them to search, they disclosed their names as Nazakat Ali and Nazir Ahmed; that from the possession of petitioner Nazakat Ali, 500 grams of cannabis was recovered, whereas, from the possession of petitioner Nazir Ahmed, 400 grams cannabis was recovered, which was seized and as such, they were found to have committed offences punishable u/s 8/20 NDPS Act; that a case vide FIR No. 121/2017 was registered at Police Station Hiranagar against petitioners for the commission of offences u/s 8/20 of NDPS Act and they were arrested; that the investigation of the case is under progress.
Principal Sessions Judge Kathua M A Chowdhary after hearing both the sides observed that as per reports, there is massive increase in drug abuse in the State of J&K. Reliable statistics reveal that thousands of the patients/victims have received treatment in the Drug De-addiction Centres across the State, which too do not have the adequate infrastructure that is needed to cope up with the huge demand. With these observations Court rejected the bail application. JNF
