I couldn’t be more proud of the journey I’ve had: Neha Dhupia

25/11/2017

Neha Dhupia dons various hats at once. It's interesting to see her in a string of standout films in recent times Hindi Medium, Qarib Qarib Singlle and now the Vidya Balan-starrer, Tumhari Sulu. All of them are slice-of-life films that address the reality of modern times in a lighter vein. Currently, her focus is 'Tumhari Sulu' in which she plays Maria, Vidya's boss at the radio station. She says, "What I liked the most about 'Tumhari Sulu' was the fact that it was every woman's story. We often talk about empowering women but we should actually enable them because they're empowered anyway. Sulu underlines that thought. She says, 'Main kar sakti hai'. A woman can be both a homemaker and a pro at work."
Elaborating on her character, Neha adds, "Maria is more than just a boss. She extends support to Sulu. It's interesting to see how two contrasting women want the same things in life. If Sulu is a dreamer, Maria is a doer who helps Sulu become a doer, too. It's so heartening to see a man (debutant director Suresh Triveni) writing such a wonderful story about women."
It's refreshing to see an artiste like Neha, who's not hung up on the screen time her character gets. For her, it's the significance of the character in the story. She sums up, saying, "For me, it's the script that matters. I want to be a part of great stories. I couldn't be more proud of the journey I've had so far."
