DF, SS hold protest demonstration

07/12/2017

Jammu, Dec 6: The workers of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena under the leadership of President Ashok Gupta took out a protest in Jammu city against the grim state of Government Hospitals in Jammu and demanding the presence of Doctors on the emergency day in the Hospital. Expressing grave concern over the worst condition of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Mr Gupta said there is foul smell even in emergency block of the hospital due to lack of proper cleanliness. He said a patient died in the emergency as no body cared for him for four hours.
He said one bed is shared by three patients and there is shortage of staff and drugs. The cities however have private hospitals where people can go for treatment but in rural areas there is no tablet available up to 20 kilometres, he added. Government is duty bound to provide better health care services to people and doctors be made ready to serve in rural areas, he said, adding the RBA category doctors as per rule have to serve in rural areas for seven years.
He also alleged that machines in GMC and other hospitals remain out of order for months together and the elevators of the GMC doesn't work as the patients have to be carried or made to climb stairs which is nothing less than a sham. He said that Government was only concentrating on cities and forgetting the small health care centres due to which these institutions have become weak.
Senior doctors appear only occasionally or attend OPD. Emergency is completely handed over to juniors on internship.
He further stated that the doctors on the emergency day should be present for the full time and should not go for there private practice even though it is banned by the High Court of J&K. The comments from different sections of society are clear indicator that our GMC is not in good books of the people and their concern is required to be taken as wakeup call by the concerned minister and administration of GMC. The waiting space for attendants just outside the emergency, require immediate attention of Superin tendant of GMC for its improvement as the attendants are more sufferer than patients as they are treated badly.
The corridors and floors in wards, particularly the emergency wards of the hospital are littered. The toilets in the entire hospital are in shambles, and have not been cleaned it seems for ages. While the hospital authorities use their own toilets, it's the public toilets which are in worst condition, and people have to bear the problem despite the fact that it could lead to spread of deadly germs and bacteria. The CM has attached the Supritendent of the Medical College but it would not make much of difference as the Health care system need a cyclonic reform at the grass root level. The party workers who were present at the time of protest were Sukhdev, Bantu, Ashish, Bodh, Raj, Tony, Kalu, Rajinder, Sham Lal, Parkash and various others were present.
