RSP registers net profit for 3 consecutive months

Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has posted a "stellar performance" by earning net profit in the last three months and setting new records in key areas. "There are several reasons for the stellar performance. There has been an improvement in inputs to blast furnace namely sinter and coke, both in terms of quality as well as consistency," the RSP said in a statement.
As a result, RSP has achieved the lowest ever coke rate in blast furnace 4 and 5 and it is improving continuously. This has made the hot metal cheaper and helped RSP absorb the rise in cost of imported coking coal and the reduction in the Net Sales Realisation (NSR) of the finished goods, the statement said.
During April-November this year, the steel plant made record 21,68,505 tonnes of hot metal, 20,93,761 tonnes of crude steel and 19,22,408 tonnes of saleable steel, which are the best ever production figures since its inception, the RSP said.
With this, the steel plant recorded growth of 12.8 per cent, 15.1 per cent and 9.8 per cent over the corresponding period last year in the three major areas production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel.
In the first eight months of the current financial year, the New Plate Mill rolled out 5,10,171 tonnes of plates and the total hot rolled coil production touched 10,94,896 tonnes setting new records. The total saleable steel despatch too was a record 19,80,840 tonnes, it said.
The statement said RSP has positioned itself in such a way that all the products from the New Plate Mill are getting sold in the market. Its New Plate Mill is also producing more value-added products in terms of NSR.
RSP has also maximised rolling of 3 mm chequered plates in HR coils. RSP is now strictly producing as per orders thereby reducing its inventory, it said. An increase in secondary sales over the last three months has been another positive aspect, it added.
