Natrang to start it’s Udhampur chapter soon

Udhampur, Feb 14: Natrang Jammu is going to start it's Udhampur chapter soon. This was announced by Natrang Director Padamshree Balwant Thakur on the conclusion of a Children theatre festival at the auditorium of Police Academy Udhampur. Balwant Thakur was in town on the occasion of the culmination of Children Theatre festival organised by India Kids School Udhampur. This announcement was made by Natrang Director in response to growing demand of the Udhampur residents who have been requesting Natrang since long to start a full-fledged centre of Natrang. Describing further Balwant Thakur informed that Udhampur centre will offer training programs both for adults and children in music and dance in addition to theatre. Natrang will also have a small repertoire of plays in which the local artists trained by Natrang professionals will participate. He further said that there is immense talent in Udhampur but requires designed professional training to bring them at par with National/ Inter national performers.
Appreciating the efforts of India Kids School Udhampur which created a history for being the first school of J&K which mounted a magnificent festival of plays on its own. He lauded the efforts of Sunil Sharma Director India Kids for giving children a unique platform called theatre which can be magical in transforming personalities.
Natrang Theatre Group is the first full-time professional theatre group in Jammu & Kashmir. It was established in 1983 by Balwant Thakur and has performed over 5500 shows and participated in a record 300 National theatre festivals during the last 35 years. In recent years, the group has begun to use theatre as a tool for peace building.
Over the past thirty five years, Natrang has organised large scale events showcasing the performing arts heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. In one event more than 500 hundred artists performed. Natrang has performed in major International theatre festivals held in Moscow, Belgrade, Yaroslavl, St. Petersburg, Frankfurt, Berlin, Rome, London, Bangkok, and Dubai. Natrang has also emerged as an important promoter of peace in a region known for violence and cross cultural conflict. It organises workshops and uses theatre as a healing and transformative tool for change in the region.
