Legal awareness camp on Women’s Rights begins at Reasi

Nayeema asks girls to know their legal rights, legislations

REASI, Feb 15: A two-day legal awareness programme on women rights and legislations began at Reasi today. The programme is being organized by National Commission for Women New Delhi in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women (SCW) in which hundreds of students from schools and colleges are participating in the programme.
Chairperson State Commission for Women, Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor, was chief guest on the occasion while Secretary SCW Aijaz Abdullah, ACR Harbans Sharma, CEO B.S Jaral and other officers and teachers were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson asked the girls to know their legal rights and understand the procedure and method of access to the legal institutions. She encouraged them to come forward in raising their issues and other incidents without any hesitation.
The Chairperson said the women should always keep open their ears and eyes and approach the concerned institution in case of any odd incident with them. She further said the government has made several Acts to safeguard the rights of women.
Highlighting various aspects of women's rights and legislations meant to protect them, the Chair person said child abuse, dowry-related violence, domestic violence, eve-teasing and other related crimes against women are manifestations of various forms of social evils prevailing in our society and we need to fight these collectively.
