Eleven drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar, Feb 22: Police today arrested 11 alleged drug peddlers in Baramulla and Bandipora districts of Jammu and Kashmir as part of its campaign against drug abuse, an official spokesman said.
"Continuing its drive 'War Against Drugs', police here arrested 11 notorious drug peddlers in north Kashmir's Baramulla and Bandipora districts," he said.
"As many as 469 bottles of codeine phosphate and about 7,000 capsules of spasmoproxyvan were seized from their possession," the spokesman said.
The Baramulla Police arrested two people and seized their truck at Kralhar, he said.
"The driver of the truck, Manoj Kumar Bhat, a resident of Subash Nagar in Jammu and his accomplice Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Akhoon of Khaitangan were arrested. The police also seized 460 bottles of codeine phosphate from the truck," he said.
The spokesman said both the accused have a previous criminal record.
In Bandipora district, nine alleged drug peddlers were arrested by a Special Task Force (STF), which was constituted to curb the drug menace, he said.
The nine accused were identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, Khursheed Ahmad Khan, Waheed Ahmad Ganie, Farhat Bashir Baba, Suhail Ahmad Rather, SadamHussain Shah, Rayees Ahmad Bhat and Tahir Rashid Matta, the spokesman said.
Nine bottles of codeine phosphate and about 7,000 capsules of spasmoproxyvan were seized from their possession, he said.
Three cases were registered under relevant sections of the IPC against the nine accused, he added.
