HP to emerge as model of natural farming: Governor

Shimla, Mar 17: Himachal would soon emerge as a model of natural farming in the country, bringing prosperity to farmers, Governor Acharya Dev Vrat today said.
The governor made the remarks while inaugurating a seminar on "Zero Budget Natural Farming" (ZNBF) organised by Agriculture Department on the eve of Hindu New Year here today.
Revolutionary steps had been taken by the state government in the direction of natural farming and Himachal would emerge as natural farming state of the country in the near future and other states would follow its model. The governor appreciated the efforts of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur for initiating natural farming and making budgetary provision of Rs 25 crore for this sector in 2018-19. The Governor also expressed his concern about monkey menace in the state and farmers had been approaching him regarding this major problem. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that zero budget natural farming has not only increased the fertility and organic matters of soil on continuous basis, but also transformed the economy of the farmers as the cost of inputs is zero.
Thakur said the state government would also promote zero budget natural horticulture in the state. Farmers and extension staff of Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry Departments would be trained in this farming. For the first time in the history of the state, 28 new schemes have been included in the budget proposed for the year 2018-19 and special focus has been laid on agriculture and horticulture, Thakur said. Thakur said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also stressed on adopting ZBNF, as it could help in achieving the target of the government to double the income of the farmers by the year 2022.
