Prez to pay maiden visit today

JAMMU, Apr 17: President Ram Nath Kovind will embark on his maiden two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow, during which he will grace the sixth convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University in Katra, officials said.
Jammu and Kashmir will be hosting a civic reception in honour of the President later in the evening, officials said, adding this would be followed by a dinner to be hosted by Governor N N Vohra.
The President will visit Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine on April 19 before returning to the national capital.
President Ram Nath Kovind would felicitate over 70 students in different streams at the Sixth Convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Katra in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“As many as 70 students in different streams will be awarded medals and certificates by the President Ram Nath Kovind at the Convocation on Wednesday,” an official here said.
e said that the medals certificates will be given in M.Tech. MBA, M.Sc, Maths, MA English and other streams.
Meanwhile students attending Convocation also participated in full dress rehearsal on Tuesday in the Matrika Auditorium.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is a fully residential University and established in 1999 by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, founded on the academic and residential pattern of IITs.
It was inaugurated in 2004 by Dr Abdul J Kalam, President of India, who also took the first class in this institution.
The Civil Society of Jammu will also give warm reception to the President at Jammu on Wednesday evening here in the lawns of Amar Mahal.
