Ten civilians injured in Anantnag grenade attack

SRINAGAR, May 23: At least ten civilians, including a 12-year-old boy, were injured in a grenade attack by terrorists in Anantnag district. The terrorists had hurled a hand grenade at a police gypsy at Bijbehara but missed their target, hitting pedestrians instead.
A police spokesman confirmed the attack, adding that the injured were admitted to several hospitals. One of the three women injured in the attack was shifted to Srinagar for specialised treatment. The area was cordoned off and search operations started to apprehend the terrorists.
In north Kashmir’s Baramulla, a guard deployed for the security of a Bhartiya Janata Party member went missing on Wednesday. Special Police Officer Waseem Ahmad Malla, a resident of Shutloo village, allegedly fled with his service rifle and some ammunition, said sources.
Sopore SSP Javid Iqbal confirmed the disappearance. He said a police team was sent to the spot to verify the details.
