Don’t call yourself an actor if you can’t go that extra mile for your role: Amyra

20/06/2018

Actors don’t mind going that extra mile to get into the skin of the characters they play on screen. And Amyra Dastur is no different.
The actor is sporting a side buzz cut for her upcoming film, Leena Yadav’s Rajma Chawal, and had to get hair extensions every time she would shoot for her latest Telugu film Raju Gadu. According to sources, Amyra is also learning gymnastics to prepare for her character in the film Mental Hai Kya.
Amyra says that as an actor, it’s important to understand the vision of the film and experiment with appearances to suit the role. “We’re in charge of bringing a character to life and turn a script into a visual story. So, if I’m required to change my appearance for a part, then I do it,” she says.
“You can’t call yourself an actor if you’re not willing to go that extra mile for both your character and the director who handed you their story (script) because they believed in your versatility,” adds Amyra, who has been a part of films such as Mr X (2015) and Kaalakaandi (2017).
On the subject of dedication, Amyra also makes sure to reach work on time. While shooting for Leena’s film in Delhi, Amyra decided to take the metro daily to reach the shoot location after she got stuck for three hours while on her way to work.
“The crew was worried about me travelling in the metro because of safety issues but I was adamant to try.
The metro helped me reach the set in just 20-30 minutes!, says the actor adding that since her look for the film was very different, she had to “go in early for hair and makeup, which would interfere with my sleep schedule; to add traffic time to that was quite ridiculous. The metro was truly a blessing.”
