DC flags off Independence Day Jhanki at Jammu

Jammu, Aug 13: Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu flagged of a Jhanki related to 'Independence Day Celebrations' from Mubarkh Mandi Park organised by Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Government of India, J&K, Jammu. The Jhanki was organised on the theme of "Quit India Movement'' to commemorate the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters to attain independence from British rule. Miss Neha Jalali, Deputy Director, ROB, J&K and Arun Singh Manhas, ACD, (Law and Order), Jammu were also present on the occasion.
The Jhanki started from Mubarkh Mandi Park passed through Radio Station Chowk Panjtirthi, CPO Chowk, Ambphalla Chowk of the city was aimed at promoting Unity, Harmony and Patriotism among the citizens. A section of Jhanki was dedicated to Swachh Bharat Mission titled "Swachhta Satyagraha" that depicted how citizens can help in promoting clean habits, management of waste and promote use of toilets.
While addressing the media persons on the occasion, Shri Ramesh Kumar emphasised the importance of such events in helping citizens understand sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and instill patriotism in them. While referring to the second theme of the jhanki viz. Swachhta Satyagraha, he said that awareness initiatives were important to motivate citizens to connect with the Swachh Bharat Mission and to attain the goals of
making India Open Defecation free by 2019.
While urging citizens to play active part in the Satyagrha for Swatchhta, Miss Neha Jalali said that the society needs independence from the unclean habits and apathy so that the government and citizens can together steer the country towards a Clean India.
The Jhanki depicted various scenes of 'Freedom Struggle' like Dandi March, Jalliawalla Bagh massacre, etc. Around 200 students from Diwan Badri Nath HSS, Mubarkh Mandi, Jammu and Luthra Academy HSS, Kachhi Chhawni, Jammu participated in the Jhanki. Cultural programmes at various locations presented nukkad natak and songs on themes related to independence and Swachh Bharat Mission. The streets of Jammu City reverberated with slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Vande Matram'.
The Jhanki culminated at Ved Mandir School, Ambphalla Jammu where a cultural programme was organised including skits and patriotic Songs by the students. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
The Jhanki was a part of the various programmes being organised by Regional Outreach Bureau, J&K, Jammu. A photo Exhibition on the theme "Desh Ka Badhta Jata Vishwas, Saaf Niyat Sahi Vikas", cultural programmes, RTI workshop, awareness of social issues will also be taken up as a part of Independence Day Celebrations from 16th August 2018 to 18th of August 2018 at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Bakshi Nagar Jammu.
