International Youth Day celebrated at GCW Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Aug 13: The Red Ribbon Club of Government College for Woman Udhampur today celebrated International Youth Day, 2018 in collaboration with J&K State AIDS Control Society.
District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar was the Chief Guest on this occasion.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC stated that such awareness programmes in educational institutions go a long way in sensitizing the youth about various social issues like drug addiction, AIDS etc.Principal of the College, Dr. Chander Shekher advised the students to concentrate on their studies and refrain from indulging in drug addiction and contribute towards building peace and fighting against social evils. Senior Superintendent of Police, Rayees Mohammad Bhat as resource person delivered a highly throught provoking lecture on drug abuse, addiction to drugs, their causes, effects and control measures. A short movie on Drug addiction made by J&K Police Department was also screened to sensitize the students about the deadly consequences of drug abuse and their roll in curbing the menace. On this occasion, a poster making competition was organized on the theme- "Stop the AIDS" in which 28 students of the college participated. Prof. Ashni Devi, Prof. Brinder Kumar and Prof. Suneel Singh Barheyan were the jury members. Ragunandika (Sem-V), Archa Kurup (Sem-I) and Neha (Sem-I) were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Earlier, Prof. Navita Sharma presented formal welcome address. Ragunandika, student of B.Sc Sem- V conducted the proceedings of the programme while vote of thanks was presented by Prof. B.P. Singh. The prominent among others present at the event were Dr. Ashok Sharma, Prof Sumita Rao, Prof. Vishal Magotra, Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Prof Paramjeet Singh.
