HIRANAGAR, Aug 18: The Provincial President of NC Women Wing Satwant Kaur Dogra today called upon party workers to get ready for Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections and exhorted them to aim for victory in elections rather than ensuring the defeat of others. "I wish to see our Women Workers as elected representatives and I hope that NC will come with flying colors in the upcoming ULB and Panchayat elections," Satwant said.
Satwant was addressing "One Day Women Convention" organized by Smt. Soma Devi former Sarpanch and Provincial Vice President of Women Wing at village Londi on international border in block Hiranagar today. She was accompanied by Provincial Vice President Rama Sambyal, Provincial Secretary Veena Oberoi, District President Neelam Sharma, Block President Shakuntla Devi and Block Secretary Shashi Devi who also addressed the convention.
Addressing the party workers, Satwant Kaur Dogra said that women have played pivotal role in transformation of society and have shown the path of progress and prosperity to the men folk in every sphere of life. While dwelling upon various initiatives taken by National Conference from time to time for the empowerment of women particularly living in far flung areas, she said that today every second doctor in J&K is a female and this could be achieved only due to the foresightedness of JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah who provided 50% reservation to women in MBBS.
While referring to the land to tiller act enacted by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohd Abdullah which changed the economic condition of lakhs of landless farmers of Jammu and Kashmir, the Provincial President of NC Women Wing said that history stands testimony to the efforts made by National Conference for ensuring economic empowerment of downtrodden. Satwant said that National Conference is the only party which firmly stands for the peace, prosperity and unity of the three regions of the state and will continue to uphold this basic principle of its political agenda. She asked National Conference workers to devote fullest attention towards mitigating difficulties of people and makes public service the benchmark in their political activities and appealed them to work whole heartily to strengthen the party at grass root level.
