In Bollywood, you can’t have ego and think that you shouldn’t ask anyone for work: Anuup Sonii

Actor Anuup Sonii is looking forward to get back into the groove and focus solely on films.
Although he had been away from films until now to focus on his crime-based TV show Crime Patrol, he didn’t lose touch with his industry friends, and has absolutely no apprehensions about asking for work upfront. “My whole purpose right now is to meet people. I’ve been catching up with many of my old friends. That’s what I’ve learnt in this place. If I have this ego ‘main kyun approach karun’... it doesn’t work like that. Of course, you maintain a certain self-respect and dignity because you have that kind of body of work behind you. When you approach someone for work, they also say that you have credibility because of the work they’ve seen you in,” says Anuup, who stars with Sanjay Dutt in the upcoming film Prasthaanam.
With newcomers raring to enter films, he emphasises on the fact that “as an actor, it’s your job to do that (reach out for work). Itna bada jungle hai... There are thousands of actors.”
“In the last six to seven years, new filmmakers have got to know me only because of my [TV] show, and remember me as the clean-shaven guy, wearing a shirt and pant (his anchor avatar),” he says, adding that it was all fine, until he did the web series, The Test Case. “I had a great experience shooting for it.
Luckily, it was shot in Mumbai, so I was able to manage along with my show. That was the trigger for me to stop doing TV. I said to myself ‘This is what I am missing’,” he reveals.
