Epidemic took huge toll of livestock in Passar area of Marwah: Kichloo

KISHTWAR, OCT 16: Senior National Confe rence Leader and Former Home Minister Mr Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo expressed grave concern over the epidemic of Mouth and Foot Disease (MFD) has turned fatal in Passar area of Marwah sub-division of District kishtwar killing at least more than dozen cattle and infecting more than 200 so far. Residents from various villages of Marwah told Mr. Kichloo that epidemic of MFD, a viral infection, has been taking a heavy toll on their cattle. Around more than ten cattle including a milk yielding cows and their heifers died due to the infection in our village. They accused department of animal husbandry for spread of this infection. They used to vaccinate our cattle but this year they not visited here and left our cattle without vaccination, they also blaming the employees of the animal husbandry department for their mischievous activities for selling the vaccine in the private market. The villagers also said that the vaccine against said infection is not reached at the door steps to the needy, so it is the prime responsibility of the District Headq uarters and the higher officials should see where it has been used. The villagers said that half cattle population has been infected. In a statement, Kichloo identified the affected villages where the Epidemic was reported including Astan gaam, Yoordu, Pethg aam, Satarvagan, Nebar, Aapan, Kokan, Nowgam, Dharayi, Noupachi, Kadr ina, Chanjar, Dherna, Hanzal, Ruchal, Humdondu, Aier, Runayi, Dund, Zaban and Methwan.
