Army conducts afforestation drive

UDHMAPUR, OCT 18: With an aim to spread the message of 'Green India', Indian Army conducted a 'Afforestation Drive' at Government Middle School, Gundi in Rajouri district. Locals and students were present on the occasion and participated with great exuberance.
More than 250 saplings of various commercial and fruit bearing trees were planted at village Gundi and other areas which have seen large scale deforestation in the past decade. Fruit-bearing saplings, which require maintenance by way of frequent watering, were planted in and around the premises of schools and the village. The event was another initiative by the Army to increase the 'Green Cover' in the region and persuade people to curb deforestation and promote a clean and green future.
The Sarpanch of village expressed his gratitude towards the Army for the 'Afforestation Drive' and said such initiatives will spread the awareness of afforestation, importance of conservation of nature and thus provide a better future for the children of the region by increasing the green cover.
