Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte to play leads in Honey Trehan’s next

Actors play the leads in Honey Trehan’s directorial debut which is set in the heartland of the country.
Saadat Hasan Manto in Nandita Das’s second directorial and Bal Thackeray in Abhijit Panse’s biopic on the late Shiv Sena supremo, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has given his nod to his next. The actor will feature in Raat Akeli Hai, the directorial debut of casting director-turned-filmmaker Honey Trehan, who has previously assisted Vishal Bhardwaj on Maqbool, Omkara and 7 Khoon Maaf. We have now learnt that Trehan has roped in Radhika Apte to play the leading lady in the film.
The film will mark the third big screen collaboration for Nawaz and Radhika, who have shared the frame in Sriram Raghavan’s 2015 thriller Badlapur and Ketan Mehta’s biographical drama Manjhi - The Mountain Man.
Radhika and Honey have known each other for many years, while Nawaz and Radhika get along well, too. She loved the script and instantly gave her nod to the project. The team is set to start shooting in January,” informs a source close to the development, adding that the debutant director is presently busy with the pre-production.
Honey was earlier scheduled to make his debut with the Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan-starrer project that takes off from the story Femme Fatale from Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, and was to be produced by Vishal.
However, the mentor-protégé duo eventually agreed that the former should take over the directorial reins. “Owing to differences in creative understanding, we have mutually and amicably decided that it would be best for our film if Vishal sir took over as director,” Honey had said in a statement.
