Encounter breaks out in Sopore, 2 terrorists holed up; mobile service suspended

BARAMULLA, Dec 12: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Brath Kalan village of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, One or Two terrorists are believed to be hiding in the residential area. Mobile internet services have been suspended in the nearby areas.
A police spokesperson confirmed that terrorists and security forces exchanged fires saying, “Exchange of fire between Terrorists & Security forces at Brath Kalan Sopore. The area is under cordon”. On Wednesday evening, forces launched Cordon And Search Operation (CASO) in Brath village to carry house-to-house searches.
Earlier on November 25, Security forces killed six militants in Kaplan Batagund area of Shopian district. In the gunfight, Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani was martyred. He was once a part of the terror module in Kashmir but later he gave up the gun and became a counter-insurgent. Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani later joined the Territorial Army.
