RTI Act awareness camp for students held

RAJOURI, DEC 13: With the objective to empower citizens and promote transparency and accountability in the working of Government, awareness programmes on Right to Information was organized by Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and broadcasting Government of India FOB, here at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kalsian Nowshera.
Harbans Singh Lecturer in Botany, Jashpal Singh Lecturer in Mathematics, Dr. Harpal Singh Lecturer Zoology, Rattan Chaudhry Master, Amrik Singh VLW, Kalsian, and other staff members briefed the students about the RTI Act and its provisions.
In his address, Jashpal Singh said that RTI act has empowered the Indian citizens by giving them the right to access information and service they need from public offices. If effectively implemented RTI can bring in openness and transparency in the working of the government, he said A penal of experts gave students basic information about the importance and need of Right to Information. The provisions along with the procedure for seeking information under the RTI Act were discussed by the officials of Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of I&B, Government of India.
The students were sensitized about various aspects and provisions of RTI Act. They were told that it is a revolutionary National Act that aims to promote transparency in Government Institutions throughout the length and breadth of the nation as the Act opens Government organization for scrutiny and transparency to the general populace of the country.The programme was presided over by Principal of the school, Vijay puri and Dy SP Operation Dr. Bisham was guest of honour. The programme was attended by a large number of gathering that includes, Teachers, local people of the area besides students of the institution and RTI activists of Poonch districts. Advocate Aftab Ganai explained to students the provisions of the Act in a detailed manner.
