Week-long legal awareness camp commences in Jammu

JAMMU Mar 23: To reach out to the public, a week-long legal awareness camp-cum-signature campaign was today inaugurated by Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Jammu, Vinod Chatterji Koul at Bhagwati Nagar here.
The camp is being held to spread awareness among the masses about various welfare schemes of NALSA, SLSA, Central and State government through Retainer Lawyers/Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA Jammu under the overall supervision of Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Jammu.
The objective of the week-long campaign besides addressing the legal problems faced by the weaker and marginalized sections of the society is to educate the general masses about the laws pertaining to the protection of the environment, resolving disputes through Lok Adalats and mediation.
A team of Retainer Lawyers along with Para Legal Volunteers would also sensitize the public about the ill effects of illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse/menace, laws pertaining to curb domestic violence, legal protection for marginalized women.
For the signature campaign, help desks were also set up where the public would put in their signature and pledge to protect the environment, use water judiciously, keep their surroundings clean and hygienic, and no use of polythene and plastics, extending their cooperation to make Jammu pollution free.
In order to bridge the gap between the various welfare schemes of government departments and the eligible beneficiaries amongst the masses, teams of Retainer Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers created by District Legal Services Authority, Jammu would also sensitize the masses about the schemes and enabling the marginalized group to avail the benefits.
