Laxmmi Bomb: Akshay Kumar’s transgender look out, film frat lauds the ‘bold move’

19/05/2019

Akshay Kumar never ceases to impress. Having experimented with a variety of roles, the actor will now be seen playing a transgender in his next film, Laxmmi Bomb. And soon after he shared the first look from the film, today morning, it got his fans excited and curious. “Bringing you one bomb of a story, #LaxmmiBomb starring @kiaraaliaadvani & yours truly! Bursting in cinemas on 5th June,2020...,” he shared on social media, along with the picture. The film, a remake of the South Indian film Kanchana, also stars Kiara Advani in a lead role and sees Akshay portray the character of a man who gets possessed by the ghost of a transgender. Impressed by Akshay’s look in the film, film fraternity hopes that it will not just surprise the audience but also do well at the box office. Lauding the actor’s bold move, trade analyst Atul Mohan says, “Akshay is one actor who has never shied away from experimenting. It’s a good thing that as an actor he is evolving. For someone who has done action, comedy, patriotic film and aced them all, it was time for him to do something new. And with Laxmmi Bomb, he has done exactly that. It’s no doubt a bold move.”
Having worked with the actor in Aan: Men at Work (2004), filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar “appreciates Akshay’s effort and decision” to take on such a role. “In international films, many mainstream actors do it [take risk] but it’s not so common in Bollywood. Earlier for my films, when I’d look out for actors to play gay or transgender characters, many would hesitate to take it up. But look at Akshay and his transformation. Kudos to him for trying such an interesting and different role,” says Madhur.
According to trade expert Joginder Tuteja, when a mainstream superstar takes such chances with his career, it does give out a strong statement to the industry. “It also shows how much confidence Akshay has in himself that he could be so brave enough to play such a character at the prime of his career. It’s no doubt a remarkable step on his part. The new avatar is something we all will be looking forward to,” adds Joginder. Trade gurus also point how Akshay has been quite consistent with his record at the box office and the predict that Laxmmi Bomb, too, will fare well.
“Akshay has a good success rate when it comes to South Indian film remakes. Earlier also, he has done Rowdy Rathore (2012), Holiday (2014) and Gabbar Is Back (2015) all remakes of South Indian films and all of them did a great business. So, let’s hope that this time too he won’t disappoint,” adds Atul.
Joginder adds in agreement and feels that Akshay is setting a benchmark by breaking stereotypes. “Everyone knows about his acting prowess and how he has ruled the box office, so, this brave move will only add another feather to his cap. The entire package looks interesting and I can see the film will be successful,” he says.
