Jammu, Aug 14: This year too, CRPF -the largest Central Armed Police Force of the country, has been awarded with as many as 75 medals for gallantry (01 Kirti Chakra, 2 Shaurya Chakra, 2 President's Police medals for Gallantry and 70 Police Medals for Gallantry). With this, the total number of gallantry medals won by the deserving Force personnel till now has totalled to 1900 - the highest ever among all the CAPFs in the country.
As announced by the Government on the eve of the 73nd Independence Day today, while one braveheart of the Force has been honoured with the coveted Kirti Chakra-the second highest peace time gallantry medal, two valiant jawans have been awarded Shaurya Chakra-the third highest peacetime gallantry medal.
Two other gallant personnel of the force have been honoured with the prestigious Presi-dent's Police Medal for Gallantry, one of them posthumously. The rest 70 brave personnel of the Force have been awarded with the Police Medal for Gallantry for their courage, dedication and above all their sense of devotion to the Motherland.
The narrative behind each of these Gallantry Medals speaks the language of utter courage, dedication to duty, devotion for the motherland and over and above a steely resolve to deliver, which is the hallmark of CRPF.
Kirti Chakra awardee Harshpal Singh, a courageous officer of CRPF scripted a saga of unmatched audacity on the 12th and 13th of September 2018 when he, alongwith his teammates could eliminate three dreaded terrorists of JeM in Jammu and Kashmir. Dheerti village under Jhajhar Kotli, Jammu is witness to the indefatigable resolve of Singh, his buddy Shaurya Cha-kra awardee Constable Zaker Hussain and the rest of the team mates to pin down and eliminate three heavily armed foreign militants. Both these brave hearts took bullets and grenade splinters of the terrorists yet held their ground till they gunned down all the three terrorists hiding behind in a house.
Similarly, the other Shaurya Chakra awardee Sable Dneshwaryan Shriram, a constable with the 53 Bn of CRPF rose to the benchmark bravery of the Force when he took the lead in neutralizing two evil-minded terrorists at Kralhar under Baramulla police station area of Jammu and Kashmir. He was on Naka duty on the Srinagar- Baramulla road when the policemen, checking the vehicles were caught offguard by the sudden firing by two men from one such vehicle on 19th October 2018. Constable Shriram, showing exemplary courage and tact not only hit one of the terrorists from close range but also chased the other armed militant and eliminated him too. Both were JeM terrorists who were out on their devilish mission.
Yet another story of grit and courage relates to Loukrakpam Ibomcha Singh, Assistant Commandant and Saheed Constable Mohd Majahid Khan, both of whom have been awarded the prestigious President's Police Medals for Gallantry. It was on the 12th and 13th of February 2018 in Karan Nagar in Srinagar that the daring duo, alongwith their teammates had a deadly brush with 2 armed terrorists of LeT. The target was to eliminate them who were resorting to indiscriminate firing and grenade blast by hiding in an under-construction building.
The mission that started on the 12th February had to drag itself through a stormy day and an entire night of snowfall before culminating in the elimination of both the terrorists, the day after.
Though Sh. Singh was instrumental in decimating both the terrorists in a life-threatening situation, Constable Khan also showed extreme determination and dedication to duty when he, despite his injuries, kept on engaging the terrorists before succumbing to his injuries.
