JMC conducts anti-encroachment drive

Jammu, Oct 12: Jammu Municipal Corporation today conducted anti encroachment drives in different parts of the city and removed goods/ articles kept by shopkeepers by encroaching upon footpaths/pavements in front of their business establishments causing inconvenience to the pedestrians & obstruction in the smooth free flow of traffic.
The Enforcement Staff led by Secretary, JMC Sunaina Sharma and Jammu Traffic Police personnel led by Deputy Superintendent Police Traffic City & South areas condcuted Joint Drive in Below Gumat from JP Chowk to Swami Vivekanand Chowk, Vinayak Bazar, Nanak Nagar from General Zorawar Singh Chowk to Khalsa Chowk via Shiva Jee Chowk. During the Joint Drive the Traffic Police also lifted and seized four wheelers/two wheelers which were parked unauthorizedly on roads and also challaned the vehicles found violating the traffic rules. The loads of seized goods/ articles were impounded at Municipal Yard. Meanwhile, Jammu Municipal Corporation has started the drawing of yellow lines in front of shops/ Business Establishment in the areas of Below Gumat from Sawmi Vivekanad Chowk to Maheshi Gate directing the shopkeepers/ business establishments to restrict their goods within the marked area failing which strict action under the provisions of J&K Municipal Corporation Act 2000 shall be taken against the violators. Besides this, a drive was also undertaken to remove the illegal advertisement and the kiosks and hoardings erected by different agencies/ firms on public places in the areas of Bikram Chowk (Tawi Bridge) and Patta Bohri were removed.
The team removed about eight advertisement hoardings which were erected and being displayed illegally.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation appealed to the shopkeepers/business establishments to refrain from making encroachments and keep the footpaths/pavements clear.
