KATHUA, OCT 17: District Development Commissioner, O P Bhagat today inaugurated a paddy procurement centre here at village Jakhbar.
The DDC said that the motive behind opening the procurement centre was to ensure that farmers be provided Minimum Support Price (MSP) at their doorsteps and discourage exploitation by middle man. He also informed that Government has approved rate of Rs.1815 and Rs.1835 per Quintal for Common and Semi fine paddy (Grade A) respectively which will be procured by the Food Corporation of India.
He further said that the MSP will help farmers to get competitive price from market hence providing more value of their produce and will ensure a fair price for farmers and protect them from price crash in the market.
This is for the first time that a paddy procurement centre was made operational in village Jakhbar - meeting long pending demand of farmers of the area, DDC informed and added that this center at Jakhbar has high catchment area ranging from Kathua to Nagri-Parole.
