‘Wore my grandmother’s old saree for my registered wedding, had a lot of holes in it’: Radhika Apte

Radhika Apte has been married for more than six years with London-based musician Benedict Taylor. Although not snapped together often the couple juggles between Mumbai and London to spend quality time with each other. Very little is known about how she got married and where. She is one of the few actors who with every performance in the film proves that she is an incredible actor the Indian cinema has.
During a recent interaction with Femina, when Radhika was asked about her dream wedding ensemble, she stated, "When I got married, I wore my grandmother’s old sari for my registered wedding and it had a lot of holes in it.
But I wore it because she’s one of my favourite people on the planet. I’m not someone who spends a lot of money on fancy clothes and especially not for a registered marriage.
Of course, I wanted to look good—I did buy a dress for my party (which was less than ten thousand rupees!). Also, I have to tell you this; I bought that dress at the last minute because I forgot to buy one! I’m not a picky person when it comes to clothes."
She further shared about how marriage wasn't important to her. Radhika said, "I feel commitment can happen without marriage. But for a lot of people, marriage is a very sacred thing and I see why; I see the celebration of unity, I see the value of taking vows, I do see how the event is celebrated and how much importance it holds to certain people, but while growing up, I never wanted to get married. It’s not that I disrespect marriage.
Even though I had a registered marriage, it was a very important day in my life because I have great memories of it."
Radhika concluded by talking about the rituals during her wedding. She shared, "When I got married, my partner and I wanted a ritual but neither of us is religious so we gave our guests seeds and asked them to plant a tree with us.
Each family member present at our wedding planted a tree. We had about 80 people planting around 30-35 trees on that day.
Everybody was wearing nice clothes but nobody cared that their clothes were getting soiled.
I did promise them free mangoes (smiles). I love group activities that bring people together."
