Government committed to better healthcare facilities: Kumar

ANANTNAG, Oct 19: Fresher's Day of 1st Batch of MBBS students of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag was today celebrated at District Hospital Anantnag.
Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar who was the Chief Guest on the occasion while welcoming the students appreciated the role of district administration, college administration and other agencies for making the GMC functional.
The Advisor shared his experiences and wished the students a prosperous future. He said that the college will soon function at its own site at Dialgam where the construction work is under progress.
The Advisor enquired about various facilities being provided to the students.
The students raised various issues related to lab facilities, canteen, sanitation and WiFi to which the Advisor assured quick redressal.
Speaking on the occasion, the Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo said that this year is historic for the south Kashmir as a first medical college started in the area.
He also said that this year 100 seats have been allocated to the 1st batch of MBBS in GMC, Anantnag and the accommodation facilities for the students have been made in private buildings till the completion of construction work of GMC Anantnag. He also said that the Nursing College of the district is near completion and will be inaugurated by December 2019.
He further stated that State Government is committed for providing better healthcare facilities to the people at their doorsteps.
On the occasion, it was given out that the GMC Anantnag is being built by JKPCC at an estimated cost of Rs 139 crore at Dailgam.
Medical College in the make shift arrangement has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.10 crore with an expenditure of Rs 3.44 crore so far, which includes lecture halls, labs including Anatomy department, Bio Chemistry, Physiology and community medicines.
The Principal, GMC, Anantnag Professor Showkat Jeelani, DDC, Anantnag Khalid Jahangir and Director Coordination Medical Colleges J&K, Dr Yashpal Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
The DDC and the Principal sought the intervention of Advisor in taking necessary steps for completion of GMC and Rehmat-e-Aalam Hospital, Anantnag. The function was also attended by Managing Director JKPCC, CMO, Deputy CMO, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Anantnag, Deputy Medical Superintendent MCCH, Professors, Assistant Professors, Facility Members, Administrative Staff and students of the college.
