I look at a script and a story in its entirety: Akshay Kumar

04/12/2019

For the last few days, speculations about the Hindi remake of Anushka Shetty’s Bhaagamathie have been making the rounds.
It was said that actor Akshay Kumar was in talks to pick the rights to the project and that the remake could feature Bhumi Pednekar in the lead.
Today, it’s been confirmed that Akshay and Bhushan Kumar will together present the Bhaagamathie remake with the title, Durgavati, produced by Vikram Malhotra of Abunduntia Entertainment.
Over the last few years, Akshay’s focus as an actor-producer has been to find intriguing stories to back.
His company has rolled out several projects in recent years, and most have been commercial and critical successes.
While recently chatting with him, we asked him what he seeks as a producer and where his mind naturally gravitates as a filmmaker and artiste.
Akshay told us, “I look at a script and story in its entirety, irrespective of the genre. As an audience, if it engages me, I take it forward and work out the logistics.
Now, whether I will act in a film that I produce is a decision that stems from whether I fit the bill as an artiste. If there is something genuinely fun, challenging and different to do in a film, I do it. The decision to act depends entirely on what I get to do in the story.
I don’t base this decision on whether a director is new or an old or whether the producer is a renowned guy or not. My mind gravitates towards promising content across genres.”
