JAMMU, Dec 6: Former Minister & senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla on Friday said that strengthening of panchayats in J&K necessary to bring peace and development at grass root level being grass-root level democracy.
This was stated by former Minister while interacting with Panchayat members who are agitating to press govt to address their genuine demands. Bhalla on the occasion advocated for strengthening the Panchayati Raj institution and fulfil the demands of Panchayat members. You have a bigger role in Jammu and Kashmir's politics and governance," he told the agitating panchayats' members. Supporting ongoing hunger strike launched by Sarpanchs and Panchs, seeking clearing of pending payments and liabilities under MGNERGA for last over four years, Bhalla demanded Govt to release wages under MGNERGA at the earliest as the scheme has been given name of Father of Nation and in no way its deep rooted adjective should be compromised.
Any further delay in conceding their demands would only prolong the agitation and works in rural areas will suffer, for which the Government would be responsible," Bhalla said. He maintained that the payments of all those who have supplied raw materials for works under MGNREGA should also be released as their families are unnecessarily being made to suffer in wake of holding their payments.
Bhalla said that the grass root level representatives have strong desire to work for the betterment and development of the people of JK.
He also said that State has suffered immensely due to wrong policies of BJP which is responsible for the damages caused to peace and development and urged upon the Sarpanchs and Panchs to work hard and ensure development of their Panchayat Halqas at grass roots level.
On this occasion Bhalla urged upon Sarpanchs and Panchs to work hard and ensure development of their Panchayat Halqas at grass root level, as that, people have expectations and want redressal of their grievances.
Bhalla regretted that BJP Govt failed to address local issues concerning people on the ground, they have misled and dismayed people for electoral gains, as a result, people have realized they have been betrayed for power. Bhalla emphasized the people to rise to the occasion to defeat these opportunist parties in forthcoming Assembly elections, as that will only ensure inclusive development, safety & security of the people, he added and said Congress Party will not compromise on the issues concerning people of J&K. Bhalla further said that Congress Party will do its utmost to address the concerns of the people. Congress has always taken care of urges and aspirations of the people and it will continue to remain steadfast to serve them (people), he said.Bhalla speaking on the occasion also demanded Govt to address issues of Village Defence Committees (VDCs), which serve as 'security arch' to defend remote and hilly villages against terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir demanding release of pending salaries. It is unfortunate to note that they have not been paid salaries for the past over eight months.
He demanded immediate grant of their salaries, which have not been released to them for the past several months.Bhalla also highlighted sufferings of litigants who are facing great hardships in wake of prolonged agitation by lawyers and demanded that Government should roll back its decision in this regard.
The lawyers' community led by Bar Association Jammu has always stood for the rights and just cause of people and fought for their interests at the cost of their own interests. Government should appreciate their concerns for the general public. Any further delay in conceding their demands would only prolong the agitation and works in Courts would continue to suffer, for which the Government would be responsible," Bhalla said.
