ACB traps ASI while accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000/-

JAMMU, Feb 16: ACB received a complaint in writing from Talib Hussain S/o Atta Mohd R/o Goutrian Mandhar, District Poonch A/P H.No. 185, Kamal Nagar, Bantalab, Jammu, wherein the complainant alleged that ASI Mohd Amin posted at PP Chinore, P/S Domana, Jammu was harassing him and threatening him with registration of FIR and arrest if the complainant did not pay him bribe money of Rs. 50,000/-.
The complainant further alleged that the accused ASI Mohd Amin had already received Rs. 10,000/- from him as bribe money a couple of days ago and is persistently pressuring him to visit him in the Police Post to pay the remaining amount of bribe money. The complainant also disclosed that he had pleaded with the accused ASI to reduce his demand as he was unable to cough up Rs. 50,000/-. Following this, the accused ASI had reluctantly agreed to receive an amount of Rs. 20,000/- in lieu of not registering FIR against him and arresting him on account of a complaint which the said accused was enquiring into against the complainant. This complaint, according to the complainant, had been lodged by his younger brother Mohd Hanief over some family property dispute.
Soon after receipt of above complaint and verification of its genuineness, FIR No. 03/2020 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018 r/w PC Act 1988 was registered at P/S ACB Jammu. Subsequently, a team of ACB officials along with the complainant and two (02) Independent witnesses proceeded towards PP Chinore and laid a trap during which the accused ASI Mohd Amin was caught red handed while demanding and accepting Rs. 10,000/- of bribe money.
The accused ASI was immediately arrested in the aforesaid case FIR No. 03/2020 of P/S ACB Jammu. A search of the house of the accused situated at Laxmipuram, Chinore, Jammu was also carried out by a separate team of ACB officials in the presence of Magistrate.
