JAMMU, May 25: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla on Monday claimed that government is hustling to create a system for providing essentials to people and ensure the supply chain of products. This is a challenging time for all, be it the rich or poor, but it is more difficult for daily wage-earners who are struggling for even one meal a day. It is the moral responsibility of every citizen to help one another and follow social distancing. It is vital to not have emotional distance with people around. Along with health professionals, the police are doing a laudable job throughout the country in the fight against Covid and in ensuring the safety of citizens, asserted Bhalla.
Health protection gear and devices are a must for the police as they have to handle all kinds of people on the streets. The medical fraternity should help and guide them with frequent checkups and safety measures. The worst-affected due to the lockdown are the daily wagers. A lot of money is required to provide them with food, shelter and other basic needs. Many individuals and corporates have liberally donated for the cause. The efforts by the district administration, especially in J&K, with regard to the provision of essential items are falling short of the challenge thrown by the Covid outbreak. The drying up of retail kirana stores because of disrupted wholesale supply has added fuel to the fire. Before the situation gets worse, the J&K government, in cooperation with the Centre, should ensure unhindered supply of essential items.
Meanwhile fulfilling duties and responsibilities of leader of poor and down-trodden in this hour of crisis, former Minister on Monday continued distributing Ration and other necessary items among needy and poor families of Gandhi Nagar Constituency at Panchayat Bathindi Ward -74, Sunjwan, Narwal Bala, Bermini, Sunjwan Harijan Basti, Haji Colony, Gujjar Colony and Chacha Chowk.
Prominent among those who accompanied Bhalla include Corporator Sobhat Ali, Sarpanch Hafiz Ullah, Bittu Sharma, Block President Jatinder Singh Chib, DCC General Secretary Urban Aman Bawa DCC General Secretary Urban Jatin Vashisht, Iqbal Singh, GS Sodhi, Gagan Bral, Naseem Ali, Razak Ali, Mohd Yakoob, Ch. Putto, Panch Mustaq, Parveen Akhtar, khadim Husain, Sanjay Gupta Murli, Rohit Choudhary beside others.
Bhalla further said that lockdown is not vacation time to move out, but to stay at home. This should be understood by all citizens. At the government level, more isolation wards should be set up and suspected patients should not be given a chance to escape. Helplines should be operational at all times and hospitals should be active 24x7. The police should act against those going out of their homes without reason. Action against fake news senders should also be taken. Today, when the outbreak is posing a massive challenge, we understand that we should be quarantined. Media is playing an important role at a time when the entire world is combating the deadly virus. Without the media, people would not have understood the situation.
